Johnson’s Print Ads
I don’t know what’s wrong with Coroflot today.
The website used to approve image files even in PDF format. This morning Jon intended to upload some print advertisements that he did for American newspapers for a potential employer’s perusal. Unfortunately, he can’t figure out what’s changed in the website’s algorithm, and no matter how hard Jon tried he couldn’t upload his works.
As the ever dutiful wife, I decided to publish here the print ads which he made for various American newspapers. Since it’s too late already and I have to get up very early tomorrow, I only managed to upload four and here they are:

Earthquake Series and Why?
News of an angry tsunami and earthquake hitting Japan on Friday shocked me. I was on the elevator when I heard two women talking about it. Aside from the three of us, there was also one of the building securities who interrupted in their conversation to tell them not to run and just stay in their places when there is an earthquake.
The conversation of the women still lingered in my head even after I have left the building premises, and was in transit already. It just scares me, the thought of an earthquake attack, as it’s barely a month since the earthquake in New Zealand, and now it’s Japan’s turn.
While on the road, I received a phone call from Mama and though I did not understand what she said because of the weak signal, her voice told me it was something serious. Upon arriving home, I sent a text message to her to ask what the call was about. So she did call once again and told me to stock the pantry with canned goods because we’ll never know what could happen, like we might lose electricity or a storm might be in the offing. I know Mama, she’s just scared I would panic if she mentions earthquake that is why she didn’t say a word about it. So, I went ahead and brought up the subject.
While earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and tsunamis are life threatening, an article published in the New York Times has somehow made me understand why these forces of nature are made to be. According to the article, these natural disasters are known as plate tectonics which happen naturally on Earth to improve it, as ours is the only habitable planet in the solar system.
It also says in the article that the huge waves of a tsunami distribute helpful sediments from the bodies of river to the land and, thus, resulting in a more fertile soil that can yield healthy crops, mountains and jungles. Earthquakes have been part and parcel of geology since time immemorial.
These things are discussed in Science class but maybe I was not paying attention to my teacher when it was taught to us. Anyhow relearning these facts is really advantageous, and this time I ought to keep them in my head.
Guess if Earth was a woman, an earthquake would be her rejuvenating cream.
What should we do then? Love Her and preserve our natural resources.
Technology can evolve but it can never be God.
Vocabulary Ignorance
Some guy online earned my ire this afternoon when he insisted that my usage of “cum” in a particular sentence was a fatal error. According to the dope, this term is used in relation to the male orgasm. I rebutted that writers and journalists use it as preposition, a substitute for with, together or as. His vocabulary ignorance further triggered him to say that he cannot remember an instance in Australia when they used cum as a preposition.
To make me appear brainless the annoying Aussie even said and I quote, “I am a fully qualified journalist for one of the biggest newspapers in Melbourne Australia. Thank you very much.” To end the conversation, I told him there’s no harm in doing some research.
Back in Journalism class, we were told that a reporter should possess a child’s curiosity. I’m just wondering why today’s young journalists act as though they are walking encyclopedias. Guess they haven’t heard about vocabulary evolution yet.
Still, cum is an age-old preposition used by yesterday’s great journalists. Period.
Modern Bonnie and Clyde
If not every week, every month I chance upon on the news a live in or married couple ripping taxi drivers or unsuspecting individuals walking the dangerous streets of Manila off their money, and other precious valuables. Once caught by the police authorities, each has a not so convincing excuse for doing such hateful crime.
One time a foursome even victimized jeepney passengers in their robbery escapade that was caught by a CCTV in Manila. Bet they got tired of the usual double dates in high-end restaurants and guaranteed seats only movie theaters so they thought it would be fun to rob innocent people off their money.
These partners in crime roaming the streets of Manila, Quezon City and other big places in Luzon remind me of the 1967 flick, Bonnie and Clyde, except that they’re not as handsome and as pretty as Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway who starred in the said movie. Aside from their faces, what pisses me off all the more is when these criminals mention family members (especially their children!) in need of medication, food and whatnot, just to vindicate themselves.
Like carnappers, I believe that there is somebody behind this new modus operandi, too, otherwise these men and women wouldn’t have had the courage to involve themselves in dreadful life-changing crimes unless they underwent serious training to succeed on this field.
Being caught by the police, however, just goes to show that they are no experts, and their greedy minds simply triggered them to do what they did.
Why not Bongbong Marcos?
SO what if former first lady of the Philippines Imelda Marcos is urging her son, Ferdinand Marcos Jr. a.k.a. Bongbong, to run for higher office?
Since Bongbong served Ilocos as its governor from 1998 to 2007, there was not a time he was ill spoken of so it just goes to show he served his father’s province well. He had practically turned the humble province into a tourist destination the entire country must be proud of this deed. I guess it was his goal to pursue the late Pres. Marcos’ ideals. According to my in-laws in Isabela, their province could’ve been the seat of Philippine Disneyland which was was one of the late Marcos’ many plans when he was still in power.
Rumor mill has it that Bongbong is running in the senatorial race next year though the latter hasn’t affirmed nor denied anything. Personally, I would love to see him run for president. Just because his father was accused of corruption (now, who isn’t corrupt in the government?), human rights violations, and tons of other allegations, it doesn’t mean Bongbong should stop pursuing what is ideal for the country. Besides, he is one leader who barely talks but gets a lot of work done.
So, why not Bongbong?
It’s so wrong to be Jamby and Willie
Good thing I don’t use my first name “Mary”, otherwise I won’t have the guts to castigate Jamby Madrigal and Willie Revillame as our names share the same last syllable.
Stumbled on a blog yesterday about Jamby Madrigal deliberately and shamelessly using the late Pres. Cory Aquino’s memorial service as an avenue for her campaign. Imagine, she had somebody distribute yellow beaded bracelets with her face on it, yuck!!!

Now Jamby, don’t start and say this is not your idea. Nobody in his right mind would go out of his way to distribute those yellow bracelets with your scheming face. Excuse me! There’s nothing about you that will make us want you for President. Excuse me again!
Ikaw naman Willie, what were you thinking throwing a fit like that in your show because of a video clipping of the late president? It’s not everyday that a video clip is inserted in your show. Did you forget ABS-CBN owes Mrs. Aquino big time? If not for her, you wouldn’t be basking in the popularity of your noontime show.
What is wrong with the both of you? It appears your mundane activities have devoured your conscience. Poor creatures, you’re so pathetic.
Plurk like you would Tweet
How many of you are busy tweeting? Did you know there are many other sites similar to it? One of them is www.plurk.com. Dialogues are ongoing but instead of scrolling downwards, you have to move through your monitor horizontally.
Like an online diary, Plurk allows you to link your favorite websites, photos and YouTube videos! I recently posted links of a cleaning service in Az and NY Asian escort.

If you’re exploring Plurk, just holler Payperbiz!
Pathetic interior designer
Thank God, my load today is lighter than most days. Unfortunately, I’m blogging with a heavy heart.
I hardly encounter rude people on the net but this morning, I just stumbled on one. She’s an interior designer in Hollywood by the name of Tobi Tobin. From the looks of it, she chanced upon my Payperbiz blog yesterday and didn’t like my post on Randolph Duke, a Hollywood fashion designer whose beautiful creations are much appreciated by world-renowned entertainment figures like Angelina Jolie, Celine Dion, Jennifer Lopez, and the like. Moving on, I wrote about Duke’s New York abode which was recently featured in a TV show about interior design.
In my post, I mentioned Duke collaborated with Tobin in designing his tropical-inspired beach house. After writing, I googled some pics of Duke’s home to accompany my write up.
Alas! Upon checking Payperbiz this morning, I received a threat from Tobin. She wrote:
“To whom it may concern,
Please take down this Randolph Duke editorial on your website….You do not have my permission to use these photographs from my website. I will pursue with legal if it is not down today. 1/ 7/09. One of the phtoographs you have used for your website was not designed by Randolph Duke it was designed by Tobi Tobin Design.”
Did she sound insecure or what? Had she only read my entire post, she’ll realize I never wrote that those pictures were designed by Duke. I also did not give all the credit to Duke for her to sound so mad. Besides, I don’t think I’m guilty of copyright infringement because those photos I used didn’t even have her signature on them to begin with; I just found them on the Google page. I wasn’t even aware her site existed.
I removed the pictures anyway along with her name. I don’t know this designer to begin with. It’s only Duke who’s popularity I can’t ignore since he’s been in Hollywood for decades and he never fails to create to die for gowns.
Still blogging, peeps!
SEE what working in a US-operated company has done to me? I can’t imagine I’m calling you guys “peeps”. Here I am taking a short break to express how much I miss blogging for fun since I’ve been trained to take blogging as a serious task, a very serious one.
I learned it’s not a simple diary online, especially when writing purportedly promotes the products, company and services of a set of clients. Gone are the days when I would look at the keyboard as a joystick and pound on it relentlessly until I’ve released all the words that depict the feeling or mood I have at a given moment.
All these months, I’ve been a constant visitor of different blogs that I’ve developed an addiction to each blog. I like digesting each word on a blogger’s post, and how I delight at the vivid photos incorporated into it.
As I start my other blog to talk freely about cars, interior design, art galleries, even escort service among others, I hold the line “blogging is a powerful sword” from brainteaser’s review of the first-ever Wordcamp Philippines, in high regard.
Apart from giving birth to a new form of journalism, blogging has also turned out to be a perfect tool for advertising. It can boost or bring down the reputation and business of others.
Music Progression
FRIENDS, I may not be writing about entertainment and music anymore but my heart will always have a big room exclusively occupied by my favorite musicians. Aside from my favorite foreign artists Kenny Lattimore, Lenny Kravitz, The Beachoys, The Beatles, Bon Jovi, The Cure, David Foster, Green Day, Toto, Lee Ritenour, Warren Wiebe, Aerosmith, Babyface, Maroon5, and Vertical Horizon among others, I will never forget the Filipino bands who stole my heart and whose music continues to linger in my system to this day.
There is just too many Filipino bands then and now that I like and love. To mention a few there’s Parokya ni Edgar, Alamid, Afterimage, Bamboo, Eraserheads, Fuseboxx, The Pin-Up Girls, Zavanna, Urbandub, and Put3ska.
Notice that they are a mixture of different genres because that’s the kind of listener I am. I don’t want to be stuck in one music category only and live the rest outside my door. I want to experience all types of music that this universe willingly offers.
I grew up listening to jazz-y ditties courtesy of my father’s records, cassette tapes and later CDs that fall under this genre. It will have to take another lifetime for me to forget George Benson, Gino Vanelli, Al Jarreau, Stevie Wonder, Anita Baker, and Lou Pardini. As I got older, I gradually got intimate glam rock, alternative and progressive rock. As a matter of fact, I was introduced to the latter not so long ago and fell instantly for it. If I’m not mistaken, the first ever progressive rock number I heard was from Pink Floyd.
I see how much respect Progressive Rock artists give their listeners. When they get onto that stage, it’s no longer just about the lyrics of their song or their vocal prowess. They create music that is worth every minute of your listening time. I especially like those bands that give a moment to each instrument in their band and person handling it. Music, after all, should be free to talk. I guess, sometimes musicians and record labels should put aside the business aspect so that music can just flow out sincerely and be enjoyed to the fullest.
If you’re up for a night of Progressive Rock, check out “In Progression 3: Odd Times” slated on Sept. 26 at 9mile Bar in Kalayaan, Cubao. For more details check below.
